Philip Weigand

Biography

Philip Weigand was introduced to the fundamentals of drawing and watercolor from an early age, his father was an architect who encouraged this form of art and maintained a studio where they could draw and paint together. And it is in the details that he enjoys the challenge of watercolor, it is a medium that moves quickly and can be unforgiving, so being prepared and planning the next brushstroke is critical. He has gained inspiration from the likes of Winslow Homer to Edward Hopper and from Peter Spier to Ratindra Das, in their vivid artistic imagery and their philosophy of their art.

For Weigand, he mainly paints after work or on the weekends in a studio designed for watercolor expression, and his children also join in on the fun. He maintains that watercolor allows for creative right-brain thinking in parity to his more left-brain activities during the day while at work.

Art has always been a passion project for Weigand. So, when traveling, he is always looking for an inspirational setting to frame out his next composition.
