Nora McMillen Burke

Biography

Nora McMillen Burke is a visual artist and educator inspired by archetypal symbolism, global textiles and her love of folk art. Born in Austin, TX, Nora studied textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology before establishing a career in art education. She works primarily with watercolors, often combining wax resist, dye and marbling techniques, to explore the intersection of multiple processes on fabric and paper. Her work examines pattern, symmetry, nature, and highlights the common symbols found in diverse textile traditions. Nora and her family live in Austin, TX.
